~Who The Hell I Am by Trent Tomlinson~

I love the taste of old whiskey

on a new woman's lips

and if she's got bad intentions

well that's as good as it gets.

The fact that Trent Tomlinson doesn't own country music is possibly the most damning evidence against Nashville there is.

    I love talk’n bout guns,
    At my favorite virtual bar,
    Sip some good whisky,
A long draw on a good cigar.

It’s Friday night and Nate’s missing in action again,
    One hand on a daiquiri,
Glock 380 strapped down near his knee,
    Where could he be?

It's like one day he went out for a pack of Virginia Slims and never came back.

Hey toothy, a K31 has always looked like a pretty cool gun to me.

Giraffe, I have a modest gun collection, but the K31 is one of my favorites. They are very well built and accurate.

If you reload, you can use a standard 308 projectile, while the Swiss surplus ammo is still available at reasonable prices, and approaches match-grade quality (but is unfortunately Berdan primed).

The straight pull bolt is always a wonder to people at the range that have never seen one before.

I read on the interwebz (for whatever that's worth) if you had a rifle made today at the specs and quality of a K31, it would be a $2000 plus rifle.

They were $100 or so when they first hit our shores, but those days are long gone. $250-350 is reasonable for one in decent shape these days. And nicer ones... you know.

If you're ever around NW Ohiya way, you are more than welcome to shoot a few with us.

    Recommendation: Buy.

we should take a poll on what Nate was doing:

    A) Shootin' at revenuers and running a still
    B) Watching mens' figure skating in the winter Olympics
    C) Mrs. Nate had that look in her eye and the kids went to bed early

    I meant to say for
B)Watching mens' Olympic figure skating, and temporarily rendered speechless by the beauty and majesty of the sport

The last one we got in the shop never made it to the shelf.

    I coddle it regularly... ;)

Sadly, we don't have a supply, and the surplus dealers seem to be out most of the time, anymore.

That leaves Gunbroker, Armslist, Guns America et al...

BTW, speaking of shooting at revenoors - is that a reference to the "Shoot Him High (Pa)" song?

You can also get places like AIM Surplus to shoot you an email when they get them in stock.

Prob not a horrible price, but not great , esp once you pay shipping and a transfer fee...

Can't be A. Nobody cares about home brew any more.

Can't be C. That wouldn't have taken that long.

Gotta be B. Process of elimination and all that.

I always seem to miss out on the really good deals because I'm not really into those guns until it is too lake. Used to be mausers and K-31's were cheap. You could get an sks for 100. Now you can get a Mosin for about $100.

I'm not sold on a Mosin, mostly because the cheap ammo is corrosive and reloadable brass is harder to come by.

  16. Anonymous10:58 AM

The Mosin is hard-hitting, built like a tank and accurate. Surplus ammo is still relatively cheap. A lot of the old-timers I see shoot them clean them with Windex when they're done (it's a PH thing, I guess).

They have also gone up in price signifigantly in the last 4-5 months. My wholesale cost on them now (when I can get them wholesale) is more than what I was selling them for retail last fall.

I think we may be seeing the SKS phenom happening with the Mosins now - I used to see barrels of SKS's at gun shows for $75-80 a piece. Starting prices of $250-300 is the norm, now.

Yeah cheds, I am old enough to remember Snuffy as well... *sigh*

I see Nate is back at Vox's place; glad all is well, Nate.

    1) I thought of Outlaw-x today at work. We have a visitor here from Texas, and hails from south of "San An-tone" (San Antonio for us non Texans). He was in the lobby of the building wearing a cowboy hat, i walked up and said "Welcome to Columbus Ohio in the United States of Texas."

    2) is there a show tonight?

    Stilicho,

That would be great. We could go shootin' some time soon, there is a new range on Bethel Rd by 315 called LEPD. I dont know if you are closer to Blackwing or LEPD.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Stilicho5:14 AM

Closer to LEPD, but go to Blackwing most of the time. There's also my gun club (about 35 miles out of town). I've heard thru the grapevine that LEPD has the best prices on handguns in the area. Haven't checked it out yet. Figured I'd look up Toothy when making my next purchase.

    Stilicho,

Let me know when you are going to Black wing again, or your club, if you don't mind, and i would like to tag along.

We could also take a road trip up to Defiance, it is about 2 and a half hours from here

    sincerely

Cheddarman, Will do. I have a rush project for the next 2 weeks, but after that, it will be time to turn some $ into loud noises again.
