ATF: HOLY SHIT! HE'S ALIVE!

No... I'm not dead.

Sorry.

We've been busy... round these parts..  very very busy indeed.  Old timers will remember Whiskey Girl...  well Whiskey Girl ran off and got married.   I know I know...  We're all depressed too...  but he's a helluva a guy and it was a helluva party... so there is that.

Also... I need to point out that another of our dear beloved smoking hot blonde reader had a birthday today.  By the looks of her she's turned 22 again.  Happy birthday kid.  Love ya.

Now...  on to the other stuff...

So I've gone to war with blogtalk and told them to piss off in the most civil way i could think of.  I got so fed up with their technical issues I just couldn't deal with it anymore. So the show is on hiatus until I find a suitable replacement.  Suggestions welcome.

In the meantime... its back to the written word.  Mea Culpa.

A: Blue Moon Rounder.  Damned nice beer.

T: Carlos Torano something or other...  damned nice smoke.

F: Mossberg 590A1 Mariner.  If you lived down here you'd understand.  damned guns will rust in your hands.

Nate said...

it is good wine. its spacebunny's fault... she told me about some badass italian wine she was drinking tonight and I had to have a decent red...

Heh, you can always claim you were led astray by a hot blonde...

So... apparently I live in one of the most 'Murica! places in the world.

Because today I saw two horses tied up to the gas light pole outside the utility board... yes... people ride their horses to town to pay their bills here... and one of them actually had a model 94 in a holster on the saddle.

MURICA!!!!

Menage a tres' red?

I was gonna guess you were hanging with Vox again. Add about 20 years to that 22 and you'll be closer to SB's age. Happy Birthday just the same.

Glad to see your not dead. Keep it up.

Congrats to Whiskey Girl!! As to your "smoking hot blonde reader" the only one you have ever referred to on the blog is SB. From the photo Vox put up last year, I would say that 22 is about right.
Got to be those Viking genetics at work.

I'll have you know I've had plenty of smoking hot blonde readers over the years! DrWho... Jeanne... SB... Blondage... give a guy some credit!

Susan said...

Oh my, I forgot about Jeanne. And as far as I am concerned, your lovely and awesome wife is in her own category. Taking care of you as well as her other 5 kids and being a doctor totally puts her there.{{grins}}

Seriously, happy birthday to the gorgeous mystery lady.

I just had an Rocky Patel vintage 2003 Cameroon. Best smoke I've ever had. Sweet, but robust, and heavy notes of fresh cut cedar being heated in a Sauna. Ever try one?

Hey, I don't know why everybody's shy about drinking wine. It was good enough for Charles Martel. It was good enough for the Duke of Normandy. It was good enough for George S. Patton.

Nate said...

I love wine... there are quite a few wine posts on the ol' blog if you dig around a little. I have a particular affinity from wine from JamieR's part of the world. Jacob Creek especially.

Here is a true ATF topic.

Why is it that corn cob pipes smoke better than briar? I have some expensive pipes and my $7.99 corn cob pipes are just better. Not better looking, just better smoking

I'd love to hear what the other pipe smokers enjoy.

I love corn cob pipes, but they all of them have burned out on me. I maybe smoke too fast.

I'm guessing that they taste and smell better because they've got sugars still in them that caramelize when you heat them up. I think they absorb moisture too, which is why they aren't prone to gurgling.

I still like a briar though. They're expensive, and you have to clean, sweeten, and ream them from time to time, but for me that's part of the draw.

@Res Ipsa

Yeah. Corn cob just tastes better.

I also made some good ones out of bamboo that tasted better than briar. And I say that as the owner of multiple briars.

Nate... I'm gonna miss BLOG TALK RADIO

Nate,

I figure when you go into silent running mode you are doing something badass. Give us a badassness report every now and then, if you don't mind...then again hearing from you is always a badass report of some kind, so i guess it is redundant... Never mind.

A: Corn squeezins, getting in touch with some of my ancestors on momma's side

T: I was wonderin' Outlaw-x,in a redneck Catholic church would they put some rope tobacco in with the incense?

F: 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56, the gun on the Tiger I tank from World War 2. My German ancestors are from the town where Erwin Rommel's 7th Panzer division was headquartered.

Bout them corn cobs, corn cobs are about 40% cellulose, 40% hemicellulose, 7 % lignin, and 10% starch. Wood typically has more lignin, less hemicellulose, about the same amount of cellulose, and no starch. Lignin gives of the wood smoke aroma when it burns, the others (starch, hemicellulose, cellulose) may burn cleaner. Just a thought

how do i know this? i am working on a project to turn corn cobs into dietary fiber, due to their high hemicellulose content

Smoked a corn cob pipe since I was 16. I have a nice collection of pipes... but the cheap corncob is always the first one I grab.

Nate said...

cheddarman...

I think you'll have a badassery report later this week. I have a plan... and it will likely involve someone saying, "here.. hold my beer and put these safety glasses on."

cheddarman said...

Nate,

I kinda live vicariously through the badassery of others. Seriously, You are my favorite badass who happens to be a follower of Jesus, and who by virtue of being himself, chicks send him topless photos. Hearing your show and reading Vox' blog have cured me of being a churchian.

...the closest i can come is to hopefully design a bullpup rifle based on the ar-15/ar-10 platform

cheddarman said...

If I ever get one of those in production, i want to call the AR-10 model the "Outlaw-X."

sincerely
