ATF: God, Guns, and Gold

The show goes live at 10pm.  We have a lot to cover tonight.  We have to do some remedial work on self defense basics as it relates to firearms.  We're gonna cover the gold crash as well as what we're going to see in the near and long term future in general economically but in gold specifically.

As for me...

A: Bookers.

T: I have this badass twist of tobacco that's been soaking in knob creek bourbon for literally 3 years.  I'm gonna cut off a plug and give it a chew.  This is the sort of thing men do.

F: Spikes Tactical AR-15.  I would post pictures but that would just be cruel.  Suffice it to say... its the money is no object AR-15.  hell it even has a nice .50 beowulf upper to go with it.

A: George Dickel Barrel Select. Been on a KY Bourbon kick for a few weeks. This is a nice change of pace.

T: Sumatra Tatuaje Cojonu

F: Colt LE6920. Picked it up at Walmart. Of course, you can't get any freaking ammo. Good thing I'm stocked up.

A: Texas 1835 Bourbon. Just won double gold at some west coast spirits competition.

T: Accidentally left it all at my dad's house

F: Henry Lever Action .22

Can we get a full hour tonight?

Eric said...

Also, some talk about silver too? Gold might be a little out of my price range now.

Also, bonus related topic: how much of net wealth is practicle to have in PMs?

Matthew said...

I just noticed that the 1835 bourbon's label is a version of the Come and Take It flag.

Nate said...

Ok... kids... if its not made in Kentucky... It ain't bourbon.

Put bourbon on the label ever how much ya like... it ain't bourbon. its just plain ol' whiskey.

Matthew said...

Nate: Legal and moral aren't coterminous, in other words.

But I will say that it tastes like a duck.

Nate said...

well now... There are differences in bourbon and other whiskeys that do in fact transcend geographic short-comings.

Texas booze is interesting booze, because we have trade restrictions (which I would formerly have described as retarded) on the incoming and the outgoing. Some of the restrictions are the unofficial results of your typical HugeCorp regulatory capture. $30K per annum license to be a distributor, or something. I have no idea what the obstacles are to exporting booze.

But because of these difficulty gradients, Texas now has multiple in-state sources of everything I care about. From wine to port to gin to "bourbon" to rye to rum to every last kind of ale, Texas makes it all.

Screw free trade.

Ahhh. The ATF Tomorrow was posted on Thursday.

My improved lucidity is probably due to the fact I'm now drinking coffee instead of whiskey.

Nate, you shouldn't mess with your semi-literate, drink-addled readers like that.

A: Concha y Toro cabernet savignon 85%/15% merlot from Chile. Good stuff.

T: La Gloria Cubana. Black as pitch.

F: GLOCK GLOCK GLOCK GLOCK 9mm.

Catch you all on the show. It's gonna be good.

A- Jameson, rocks. My maternal folks were bog-Irish scum, I yearn for the peat now & then.
T- Still growing...
F- messing with the VEPR this week still, it'll make a mess of things...but just cracked out the Kel-Tec Sub 2000 .40 w/Bushnell red dot, funner than a drunk sorority girl. Plus I have .40 ammo like Carter had little liver pills...

Flannel Avenger said...

Ok, so now I have this vision of Vidad rolling around in his gold like Uncle Scrooge...

I was on the line, guys, but I guess you two were too busy giggling together to notice. Phone kicked me off at the end of the 30.

Matthew said...

FYI, called in at about the 26 minute mark. On the phone, I could hear you two (with about 3 seconds less latency than the web), but no other indication of what was happening. Then TMBG played us out.

Matthew said...

All right, so that's two of us.

Eric said...

Seriously. Make the show an hour at least.

Popcorn...sheesh.

rycamor said...

Really, I had nothing great to contribute, other than that I have actually been to El Banco de Oro (the Gold Bank) in Bogota, Colombia, one of the world's great gold museams. Gold was not only valuable to the Incas, but to the pre-Inca cultures of South America.

And yes, gold lust, does exist.

Matthew said...

I had a field report on visiting both a gun shop and a coin shop today.

Nate said...

Dammit. We're doing at least an hour next week. Live.

Maybe 2.

I'm sick of this crap.

Sorry we missed you guys.

Will not happen again.

Missed the live show, have to catch the replay tomorrow. Friday night is ATH at Casa Del Agua.

A: Blue Moon Belgian-style Wheat Ale to start, followed up with Ardmore Highland Single Malt with...
T: Cuesta Rey Centenario Aristocrat, a gift from my daughter. Mild, yet full-flavored, in the....
H: Hot tub. There's nothing like a long soak in the cold mountain air with a scotch and cigar, and milady beside me.

Looking forward to the archived show tomorrow, you fellas haven't disappointed yet.

rycamor said...

As for the ATF, for me it was just water today, no ciggie, and nothing but my Gamo Bone Collector airgun.

But, I did score two squirrel headshots in two days. Take THAT, Vidad, with your Blackhawk.

Eric said...

I would have called in, but the topics of God, Gold and Guns suggested to me that we could have had a Great Courses series with 48 episodes and not had time to get to callers.

2 hours would be awesome.

Eric said...

Haha WaterBoy,

I too am having a great ATH.

A: Maker's 46
T: Grizzy Wintergreen
F: Hottub (Will Ferrell pronunciation from that classic SNL skit only, please) in the mountains of CO as Vail is back open for this weekend.

bw said...

A: $7 Cabernet + 6.0% beer as chaser.
T: Laying off. Fucks with my sinusus.
F: Pulled out the ancient Charter Arms .32 Undercoverette to clean it because ElBo mentioned .32 recently as "WTF" is that?

About to move back to DeepSouth where my roots are for 6 Generations because the Wife can't handle the "Cold" and I can't handle her not handling "the Cold". God Damnit.
Oh well, I got a new Truck and Boat combo out of the deal. Suck it.

Matthew: "Texas now has multiple in-state sources of everything I care about. From wine to port"

Wine from TX I've had, pretty good stuff from Llano Estacado. But who makes the port? I'm not a fan of the stuff (too sweet), but the wife likes it for dessert. If it's cheaper than the English brand she drinks now, it'd be worth a try, methinks.

Eric (from DMM?): "as Vail is back open for this weekend"

Are they? Good for them. We got a light dusting down here in COS yesterday, but I heard the mountains were supposed to get substantially more. Here I am trying to get the boat ready for the summer, and the damn tarp is covered in snow and ice, again.

bw said...

pretty good stuff from Llano Estacado.

You don't want nothing to fucking do with the Llano.
Trust me. Ask Gus.
The wine is good enough though.
I've had it all.
Can anyone stop the wind and sand please?! That's what I thought.

WaterBoy said...

Nate: "well now... There are differences in bourbon and other whiskeys that do in fact transcend geographic short-comings."

I found it interesting how Jack Daniels could legally qualify as "bourbon"...but because they also apply the charcoal filtering process required of Tennessee Whiskey, they would rather label it as the latter than the former.

So...which has more cachet? Bourbon, or Tennessee Whiskey?

bw: "You don't want nothing to fucking do with the Llano.

Please to explain, yes? OK.

Matthew said...

Waterboy, I believe both Llano and Messina Hoff make port. One of them is more expensive, the other is better, and I cannot recall which is which.

Matthew said...

My go-to Texas wine is Messina-Hoff's Cabernet Franc. I don't like the Llano wines much. Becker Vineyards producs all taste actively bad to me.

Eric said...

WaterBoy

From DMM? I don't understand.

I got about 15 inches this week at my house just north of Denver. I think the mountains got over 2 feet, plus more tonight.

Don't we have to have a couple consecutive days above 70 before pulling out the boat in CO?

bw said...

Please to explain, yes? OK.

Sure thing WaterBoy.

The "Gus" reference is from LonesomeDove. The Llano Estacado.
I fucking live on it.
Any more questions Nate's "bro" ??
By the way, I'd run you ragged in your own fucking Rockies.
You doubt it, I assume???

WaterBoy said...

Matthew: ""

Ah, yes, I see it now on the Llano website.

Haven't tried the Messina-Hoff products, before. Really, it was an accident running across the Llano wine being sold at a gas station along the interstate where we stopped to fuel up. Will see if I can find it, thanks for the recommendation.

WaterBoy said...

Eric: "From DMM? I don't understand.

Different Eric, then. Pardon the misunderstanding.

Eric: "Don't we have to have a couple consecutive days above 70 before pulling out the boat in CO?"

Not too early for a shakedown cruise. Pueblo is a little bit warmer, and we have a slip down there for the summer. Not saying it's warm enough for wake-boarding, just yet. But putting her in to see how she runs is doable, since we just got her last fall.

You get it.

WaterBoy said...

Hmmm...mucked up the quote from Matthew, it seems. That was supposed to by your "I believe both Llano and Messina Hoff make port", if it wasn't clear.

Eric said...

WaterBoy

No worries. I was down in Pueblo earlier this week and it was bone dry versus the winter wonderland my backyard was. So I guess that might work, but for this weekend Imma enjoy me some turns.

Nate said...

bw... settle down mate. Waterboy's been around a long time... and his hospitality is legendary. Those legends are entirely justified by they way. I have first hand knowledge of the fact.
