Schism?

At last months General Assembly UMC evangelical leaders announced a plan to force the UMC to devide over homosexuality. They said the division could take a decade to take shape though. This is kind of suprising since the evangelicals got everything they wanted from the General Assembly. A friend emailed me (Thanks Red), then I did some further research. It looks to me like the conservatives are just sick of fighting over this. It's like arguing that 1+1=2 with a 2 year old. This comes up every 4 years, and every 4 years it takes a great deal of money and energy to beat it back. Why bother? If the conservatives decide to split, that will send the UMC down the road to ruin, and that's a shame, but I'll be long gone by then I reckon.
