Ok enough of this off and on nonsense. Its time to get this show back on the road. So to speak.
I've got 3 different kinds of Shiner tonight... Shiner Bock... Shiner Premium... and Shiner Cheer. The last being their special christmas beer. Which is odd... because it tastes like peaches. I don't know what peaches have to do with christmas... but what ever.
So today we learned some big news... apparently at some point in the last few years our buddy Vox switched from Glock to Steyr. Now I know what you're thinking but there's no reason to jumped to conclusions... just because I've used Steyr forever and sung praises for years doesn't mean Vox was influenced. I mean in his part of the world Steyr is Glock's biggest competitor. That's hard for american's to imagine because the weapons never caught on here... but honestly that says more about Americans than Steyr.
Anyway its happy news to know that Vox has been un-Glockified. Now if we can just get Six to see the light...
A: Shiner. Lots of Shiner. Obviously
T: Makers Mark cigar. Things are aged in honest to God bourbon barrels. Fantastic.
F: Pair of Steyr M40-A1s. I know I know... real gun people know that you can't shoot 2 pistols at the same time. Its all Hollywood fiction. Well... I can. and do. Work at something long enough... and your mind figures it out. That said in a defensive situation it wouldn't be my choice. We carry two because its faster to draw a new on than reload.
Here's the link to the show. Y'all come. 9 central.

@Raggededge
Is Dickel good? Haven't tried that yet.
For $18 a bottle, it is damn good.
$!8 a bottle?
How expensive is the headache the next morning?
Hmm.
Pacific Rim is suspiciously similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion.
I can't believe I just typed that sentence.
Buffalo Trace: distilled by truth-extracting bastards.
"Pacific Rim is suspiciously similar to Neon Genesis Evangelion."
Yes, only the characters aren't pathetic angsty Japanese teens.
I was going to call in during the Harlan story, but had a drinking emergency.
@Vidad,
No expensive headache for me this morning and I enjoyed my share last night. I always tell people to give it a shot, worst that can happen is you're out a twenty.
Sitting in the auxiliary deer blind this morning. (my dining room). It is below zero so I'm not too wild about sitting in a tree stand, and I have a cold so I wouldn't get a deer to come within a thousand yards. I can shoot out the window though. One button buck came up about 30 feet from the house. Nothing big enough to shoot this morning. Time to go to the cafe to see what the braggers got.
Nate, about that christmas beer that tastes like peaches...well, arent "peaches" some times used as a metaphor for boobs?

It's 22 degrees out but sunny.
The only smokes I've got going are mesquite. I put a couple of nice big Thanksgiving briskets on the smoker.
The only A is the Knob Creek single barrel 9 year old that I used to deglaze the caramelized onion in the BBQ sauce.
All of this was done with my sig on, so even though its Sat, I hope that counts for an ATF.
Now its back to work.
22 degrees...
Thank God for Alabama.
Its...
70 here.
The high today was 83... rycamor and another friend came by with power tools and we spent the day chopping down an oak tree and shredding tons of biomass.
This is why I live in Florida. Tons of sunshine and no nasty winter.
Ya'll suck.
If you think I'm only saying that cause its 15 degrees with a -1 wind chill: You're right.
hey man... its gonna get down to... ummm... 50 tonight! we're sufferin' too!
I hear ya.
From December to March I wish I was living back in the south, but the rest of the year I can pass on it.
This is why I live in Florida. Tons of sunshine and no nasty winter.
Yeah but if the hurricanes don't get you the lightning will. It's like a penis hanging out in the wind. Just kidding Vidad.
Outlaw X
That is funny on so many levels!
Tell you what, though - the most fun had all weekend was a game played between two lousy teams at 3 degrees with a sub-zero wind chill.
It literally looked like football on a hockey rink: at one point, an RB fell forward against a mob of tacklers, and they all slid down hill for about 7 yards and a first down.
55,000 tickets sold, but only 30,000 people showed up because of the health risks for the elderly fans and small children, mostly.
But it was so miserable that security didn't even check for flasks and what not. I doubt they would have checked for guns, just in case someone needed to shoot a moose for warmth and shelter.
It was an ice party: the stadium was rocking, the home team won 34-0 and you couldn't tell if it was the helmets or the pond they were playing on that was cracking.
It was an ATF paradise...and senior night.
Nate,
The cold weather in the north makes for hard men and big deer.
Sincerely
Cheddarman
Totally agree cheddarman. I have always harbored a little suspicion with regards to the true survival instincts of men who mock us copperheads.
I like all of my seasons, not just warm and hot.
Auburn. Heh heh heh.
Auburn. Heh heh heh
That was a great game. Never seen someone run back a touch down from a missed field goal with one second left. No one to blame but a stupid coach.
Nate, Cyber Monday sale, just FYI:

@Outlaw
Yeah. It was totally outrageous... one for the history books. I couldn't believe my eyes until about the third instant replay. It was one of those "Is that real? There must be a penalty! He must've gone out! Somebody pinch me... this is insane" moments.
I didn't have a dog in the fight but it was truly epic.
Left this at Vox's place, too:
Apmex has free shipping on metals until midnight tonight, if anyone is interested. I'm getting a few ounces of silver, just on GP.
Regards,
toothy
Nate,
I saw the Auburn game, thought of you when they ran back that missed kick for the TD...so much for things of this world...
I've been praying on and off with my buddy that God would talk to you about becomming a preacher.
all of these people here pretty much count as an old school amen corner...rebs, copperheads, hippies like six... and if you got the likes of Outlaw-X in your amen corner, that is some serious Holy Ghost powered artillery, in my humble opinion
Sincerely
cheddarman

A Catholic I was born
A Catholic I was raised
A Catholic I will be
Until my happy dying days.
Don't take it personal, I found my faith I don't need a preacher, while Nate is one of the finest men I know. My God and my faith saves me I am not searching for some knew truth.
Outlaw-X,
I was writing with some hyperbole.

cheddarman,
I was kinda hope'n that he might do it. Not say'n I'd be a member, but I might visit a time or two.
Maybe in Nate's church, the amen corner could shoot their guns up in the air instead of saying amen...not sure how that would work with the roof, but maybe we could make some kind of overhead sand trap for the bullets and buck shot
Note, ATF tonight?
Church of Nate
The choir uniform would be ropers, levis and wife beaters.
Bourbon and nachos for communion service.
I suspect they won't accept cash for the offering only .223 and .45 acp in factory original boxes.
Nate would open every service playing Moby Dick. Stairway to Heaven would be the song for the alter call. Free Bird would be the closing song.
The deacons would have a afternoon firearms fellowship.
Yeah, I think I'd visit.
Are we on for ATF tonight?
What happened, Nate... are you alive?

Aw man, not again!
10-4, let's roll.
Maybe our beloved Nate is out deer hunting. I'm guessing it is spear season in Alabama, and Nate is hding along a game trail waiting on a deer...looking like Rambo in Rambo 2, when the russian spetnaz commandos are hunting him in the jungle,
where Rambo is all covered in mud and you dont see him until he opens his eyes and grabs the Russian spetnaz commando and sends him into eternity...
that is my guess

It was 84 today with clear skies. Enjoy your winter, suckers.
Six,
It's 17 degrees here. Bite me.

It was 84 today with clear skies. Enjoy your winter, suckers.
I hope your air conditioning goes out and your humidity goes to 80%. It is cold a heck here in North TX. Had to get the neighbor boy to bring me my mail because I can't walk on the ice.
It is really unseasonably warm right now. Usually it gets down into the 60s and 70s and I have to put on a T-shirt with sleeves.
'course, you're all welcome to visit. I'm building a dang cool tree-fort cabin in my yard right now. 96ft2, and it'll have electric when I'm done. I think I'll even put a porch on it.
Outlaw... I'm sorry you're stuck not being able to walk on the ice. I saw a patch of ice once when I was a kid and got to visit relatives up north in winter. I stepped on it to see what it was like, then fell and busted my knee up.
Growing up in Florida does make you rather unfamiliar with things like that. When I was in TN it took my forever to figure out how to get ice off my windshield. I went out one morning and was like... "what the heck??? How do I get this off and get to work???"
Vidad: "Enjoy your winter, suckers."
Say, how're the flies and biting insects there this time of year?
Build any snowmen with your kids? Take them sledding, maybe? Build opposing snow forts and have snowball fights? Sit around a crackling fireplace with mugs of hot cocoa after coming in from doing those things?
Poor man...you have my pity.
Vidad: "I saw a patch of ice once when I was a kid and got to visit relatives up north in winter."
You didn't even get to try out bumper sliding while you were there? Opportunity missed.
Pshaw. We've been dipping below zero (F not C) off and on for a few weeks. It's made local football games a blast and finally blessed us with a little six-inch snow.
Snowforts > Treeforts 100%
Today's High: 6 degrees and allergy free. The only annoying part is having to change out the rabbits' water every few hours. Those things freeze in no time.
Nate's got to be mourning the Tide getting relegated to the Sugar to play Oklahoma for pity sakes. Yuck. You'd have thought they'd have somehow drawn at least a league champion or something, but that isn't how the BCS works.
Now 'Bama gets to prove absolutely nothing on the field except that they are as good as the Longhorns. They lost one game by one score, and now get to play a team that was blown out twice by no one special. What a disappointing draw. My condolences.
It could have been worse, though, I guess. 'Bama vs. Central Florida would have been a disaster.
Daniel: "The only annoying part is having to change out the rabbits' water every few hours. Those things freeze in no time."
Recirculating pump; moving water doesn't freeze. You can also add a little inline heater if you want to warm the water up a little, if it gets too cold.
Did the ghost of Bane come back and kill Nate?

My mom tried to go get the mail today against my wishes. I immediately went and grabbed My 100 foot repelling rope. We have about a 6% slope down to the mailbox in the front yard. I was watching her out the window. She got about half way down and was stuck almost falling I told her not to move and stand still. Through the rope about 30 feet over her shoulder and she grabbed it and had to pull mom back up the hill. All for the damn mail. The neighbor thought it was funny. Then went and got the mail for us.
Love the recirculator for hogs, but I can't justify a 200 buck part for 5-dollar rabbits.
Instead, I'll do something completely practical and totally worth my time: I'll invent a 40-degree solar sleeve for rabbit waterers. Still, thanks Waterboy. If I were either practical or sane, I would most surely follow your advice.
"If I were either practical or sane..."
...what fun would life be?
Not much in the way of insects this time of year.
Eating fresh papaya, getting Vitamin D and hitting the beach > snow forts.
@Outlaw X
That's hilarious.
When I was in TN I almost went insane every winter. It mostly just rained all day and the weather hung out in the 30s and 40s. When it snowed it didn't stick for very long, then it would be back to rain. Icy muck in the yard... and the kids cooped up... and no sun. Couldn't take it.
None > not much
Shorts > frostbite
Vidad: "Shorts > frostbite"
Ha! This reminded me of a photograph I had taken in my youth on a sunny winter day in northern Michigan, where a fresh snow had fallen the night before. Amidst this pristine white backdrop, I reclined on a lawn chair with only a pair of shorts and sunglasses on, soaking up some vitamin D.
Shorts ≠ frostbite.
Anyway....
Tongue frozen to flagpole > sunburn
Umm...waitaminute...
The elusive Nate was spotted recently at Vox Popoli, so we know he is alive, and able to reach a keyboard, and type coherent thoughts...maybe we ought to shoot him in the arse with a tranquilizer dart, and put a radio collar linked to a gps around his neck...what are we gonna use for a trap and bait?
I hear that bourbon holds a certain attraction to the varmint.
"I hear that bourbon holds a certain attraction to the varmint."
Shhhh. I'm going to leave this Arturo Fuente cigar beside the Maker's bottle...
Now be vewy vewy quiet...
I just bought a new 9mm baby Glock.
OT- But for those who read this blog a good friend of mine who graduated with my father has a son name Mark who is the head of emergency operations with NOAA in Fort Worth and he writes this email. Just an FYI if you had to brave the cold over the last week get ready.
Email:
"So don't be fooled by the warmer temps coming up next week...the arctic is just getting recharged. Another stronger blast of cold air is coming in a few days before Christmas with a potentially even colder shot coming in a couple of days after Christmas. Period around Christmas could be the coldest on record.
Too early to tell on snow/sleet/freezing rain...but all of us could be in a for a white Christmas (not necessarily snow on Christmas day, but snow beforehand that still hasn't melted).
Mark "
Prepare accordingly.
Outlaw X
Sorry about that cold stuff. If it starts getting you down, just remember that your bad winter weather is our good winter weather. Not that it'll make you feel warmer, but at least you'll know that someone is more miserable than you are.
It's 2 degrees in NW Ohio at the moment.

Is that one that will someday grow up to be a real gun?
