Its Not Your Money

Sit down.   Take a deep breath.  Calm.  Be calm.   Trust me.  You need to settle down about before you read this article.

If you don't have time to read the whole thing... I'll sum it up for you.   A Talladega scrap yard owner was just effectively fined 1.26 million dollars.  His crime?  Withdrawing the money he legally earned, and paid taxes on, $9,900.00 at a time.

Note.  He's not accused of money laundering.   He's not under investigation by the IRS.  He was just taking out cash from his account in such a way that the bank didn't have to report it to the Feds.

Try to remember this the next time some moron tells says "you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide."  This many had nothing to hide.  Scrapping is a cash business.  It requires him to keep large amounts of cash on hand.  None of this is illegal.

But intentionally taking out less than the amount of cash that would've set off the bank reports...  well no no no.  We don't hide ANYTHING from our Psychotic Aunt Samantha now do we?  It doesn't matter if we're not doing anything wrong.  Our Psychotic Aunt Samantha WILL be told.

I know this is all collapsing.

I know that in a few years... the US government will be almost totally irrelevant if it even exists at all.

But days like this...  that doesn't seem soon enough.

Any coincidence that all the government employees involved, save 1, are women?

A few years ago I would have said this is an April Fools' joke.

I mean, you can take the real headlines these days and if you went back to the late '90s when The Onion started its website, they would have fit right in.

The doom doth impend more heavily every day...

For example, even 5 years ago I would have said this video is a prank. Now... sadly, I think it's real.

Never pegged you for an optimist.

What would have happened if he had withdrawn it all at once? Called the bank and said, give me $1.2MM cash?

Need one, at any point, worry about the age/appearance of the bills they have on hand? With the changed appearance of the newer bills the PTB are producing it becomes a pretty good indicator that money has been kept out of circulation when older bills then appear.

Just wondering...

Raggededge,

At the very least it would have gotten him a visit from Obama with his hand out for a cut of the stash.

automatthew said...

RaggedEdge, he didn't even withdraw the 1.2 million. He withdrew a total of $119,400.

The fine is punitive, for "structuring".

If Anonymous were not a bunch of cowardly bronies, they'd be publishing home addresses of IRS and DoJ.

Fred,
Here is a blog post (with photo) that talks about your question and the appearance of bills. Bottom line is "Yes"

ATF?

A: Glenrothes 1998; not bad, but not amazing. Friend recommended it, had to give it a shot.
T: Rocky Patel 1990s Jr.'s. Nice & easy.
F: Plenty of talk of a new shotgun tonight.

Questions for next week:
- What will happen to U.S. bonds in the case of deflation or hyperinflation?
- This may sound odd, but... when you buy a firearm from a store, are there any cases of the names in the black book being sold off by some idiot employee? what are the chances of this happening?
- Will Putin invade the Ukraine and/or Georgia?
- Baseball?

Yes, this has been going on for a while. We have a businessman in my neck of the woods in Leavenworth for structuring withdrawals in $3K increments.
And a small grocery owner is fighting to get his money back for structuring deposits, done because his insurance company only insures up to $10K in cash.

Advice: If you do make large cash withdrawals, ask for fresh bills so they don't find traces of drugs and use that as a means to confiscate your cash.

The finals should be interesting with dogs(huskies) playing cats(wildcats) for the title.

Isn't this one of the signs of the apocalypse? Dogs and cats, playing together?

cheddarman said...

Susan, the line from "Ghost Busters" that you are referencing was "dogs and cats, living together" spoken by Bill Murray.

Susan said...

I know. But I was paraphrasing. Sorry.
At least somebody got the reference.

Nate,

where in the world are you at?

Have you gone yankee on us?

cheddarman said...

speaking of yankees, i work with a young guy from southern ohio/kentucky who sounds a lot like our own Nate. He even has a bit of Alpha in him, but is definitely a lower level Alpha than our Nate

I want to have him call into the ATF show and declare himself to be the Anti-Nate or Yankee Nate, or something like that...see what kinda response he gets...we oughta make up a list of things for the other Nate to say...any suggestions?

sincerely

Cheds, I suspect Nate is plenty busy taking care of those wonderful children. ATF must be a drain on him, especially since it is time/day confined. I would expect that they will be intermittent, and who could blame him. I couldn't do a show every week for an hour at the on the same day at the same time every dang week.

Outlaw X said...

Try some random time to sit down and record yourself for an hour talking about things that keep people attention. That takes a lot of talent, besides men don't like to talk so much and if he is like me I am ready to get off a phone call as fast as I can when someone calls me with a few exceptions.

Outlaw-x, i agree with you, completely. I will take the shows as they come. I just wanted to throw out some chum, see if i could get the big fish to bite.

Oh Outlaw X, you will be in my thoughts next month. Lord, please help the surgeon get it all this time.
