China Lands on the Moon

Well... it appears we may finally get an answer once and for all.  China has landed on the moon and as I am typing... pictures are being beamed back to earth from their lander.

At some point...  we will get to see pictures of all those Apollo relics.  Right?

And if we do then i concede... that is massive evidence to support the claim that men actually walked on the moon.

But what if we don't?

What will you concede?

I'm smoking an Opus X (my only one)if there's nothing up there...

Perhaps that essay on The Shining and Apollo was right.

So funny - I was watching that this morning thinking "I wonder what will happen if they don't find anything up there...."

Nate: "At some point... we will get to see pictures of all those Apollo relics. Right?"

Wrong. The Chinese were apparently aiming to land in Sinus Iridum, the "Bay of Rainbows" (map here). The Apollo missions did not land in this area (map here). If the rover beams back pictures of Apollo relics, they were hopelessly off-target. And if they don't, it's to be expected.

Nate: "And if we do then i concede... that is massive evidence to support the claim that men actually walked on the moon."

Here is photographic evidence that men actually walked on the moon. What will you concede, now?

Oh, wait...that's from the US government, so it must be fake. How about this one from China, instead? This was the mission before this current one, which mapped out possible landing sites for this rover and picked up the Apollo sites, too. (Original source, if you can read it.)

Nate: "But what if we don't? What will you concede?"

That the Chinese are good navigators?

Waterboy...

1) That's a fuzzy spot. that's not proof... or even evidence... of a damned thing.

2) The little rabbit fellow is spending a whole month up there. Apollo went up there how many times? You're going to tell me that there is no scientific value in figuring out a way to see how the junk left behind is doing after 50 years?

As usual... we see that you will always see what you want to see.

Probably because you're still that little boy that dreampt of being an astronaut and it will just break your itty bitty heart for your heros to turn out to be frauds.

And of course... another thing I would point out...

How is a picture of a fuzzy dot proof that man walked on the moon?

we have videos of a lander rolling around mars. That doesn't prove that man walked on mars.

No one is claiming we didn't put stuff on the moon.

We're claiming man didn't walk on it.

and actually Waterboy...if you'll look a little closer at your maps... you'll see the Bay of Rainbows actually isn't that far at all from the landing sites of Apollo 12 and 14.

again.. remember the little fellow is going to be up there for a MONTH.

ah damn... the little rover turns out to only have a 6 mile range.

Suck.

Its possible it could go find some soviet stuff though. I think it was Luna 17 than landed in the bay of rainbows?

But what if the Chinese fake their landing and find fake Apollo artifacts... cuz, you know, that would be a good joke.

You didn't ask for proof. You asked for evidence, which this is. That you choose to pooh-pooh it doesn't surprise me any more than the fact that you continue believing caulk in the Arizona desert is original.

Nate: "As usual... we see that you will always see what you want to see."

This...from the guy who thinks the moon is the size of an amusement park, and the Chinese have nothing better to do up there than to go looking for somebody else's junk.

Pot, kettle.

Nate: "Probably because you're still that little boy that dreampt of being an astronaut and it will just break your itty bitty heart for your heros to turn out to be frauds."

Yawn.

And your belief that the government is lying about it stems from your daddy issues.

Now, would you like to get back to the facts, or would you prefer to continue playing armchair psychologists?

I give it another 10-15 years before some home school kids make it to the moon and back alive as a science project...

cheddarman,

That would be funny. It'd be even better if it was Nate's kids and they found the Apollo site with foot prints still there.

Original?

No.

I believe the original caulk wore out long ago. I'm certain its been re-caulked since.

Also... a fuzzy dot isn't evidence of anything.

Its just something to speculate on.

Show me the caulking.
