Ghost, Soap, and Spartan 117

Ok kids... Who are your favorite video game characters of all time?  I'll kick things off with a few of mine and some appropriate quotes of there's or about them.

1. Master Chief Spartan 117, Halo.   "Wake me... when you need me."

2. Cortana, Halo:  "I'll miss you."

3. Ghost, Modern Warfare: "NO!"

4. Soap, Modern Warfare: "Stay Frosty"

5. Sam Fisher, Splinter Cell  ***after watching a man commit sepuku*** "I think someone is taking himself a little to seriously."

Ok... you're turn.

Luigi's "I'ma Luigi! Num-bar one!" after winning a race in MarioKart on N64 always cracks me up.

GLaDOS is great, but I think Cave Johnson was better in Portal 2.

Especially his rant about life and lemons.

Fallout 3
The furious but impotent scream a super mutant makes as he realizes he just stepped on another land mine you left and he doesn't have enough health to live through this one.

Beep..
scream starts
Beep..
scream getting very loud now
Beep..
scream almost painful to listen to it's so loud
Boom.. scream cut off prematurely

World of Warcraft
The player characters have voice emotes, they can say some funny things, like this one said by male trolls, said with a Jamaican accent.

"I kill two dwarves in da morning, I kill two dwarves at night,
I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel alright.
I kill two dwarves in time of peace and two in time of war,
I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more."

This one isn't in the game anymore. I guess it was just a little too far over some line.

Minecraft
No characters in the game actually speak any words but the creator of the game, Notch, has, albeit rarely, shared his views on Herobrine.

“The Herobrine stuff is awesome and kind of scary at the same time. It really shows how little control a content producer has over the content.

I've publicly told people there's never been any such thing as Herobrine, and that I don't have any dead brothers, and that letting too many animals die in lava is a fool proof way to summon him but that you don't need to be afraid of him. He only means well, he's looking out for you, trying to warn you of the dangers you can't see. There certainly are NO physical manifestations of Herobrine that will sneak out of your computer if you leave Minecraft running at night, looming over you as you sleep with his pale eyes inches away from your face, as he tries to shout at you to wake up. Sometimes you wake up with a jolt, and he's gone, and all that lingers is the memory and faint echo of his wordless screaming. Of course it was just a dream. There's no way a morally dubious ghost with a god complex could at any point decide to haunt the children who play my game "for their own good", as there is NO SUCH THING. etc etc„
~ Notch on Herobrine

Herobrine being a mythical monster supposedly seen inside Minecraft that has reached urban legend status.

One of my favorite all-time games is EV Nova.

There are all kinds of snarky dialogs sprinkled through the game, but my favorite one is where you're enslaved by the Federation and told to meet the evil female bureau chief in the bar. You arrive and an unattractive guy is hitting on her. You break it up by sitting down as she informs you with an icy smile, "he will be dealt with." By this, you realize the man signed his own death warrant.

The gal is a deliciously nasty character.

Favorite character line

From Warcraft 2...when you poke the sheep, they respond with "Baaaaa". If you keep doing it, they get fed up and say, "Baa Ram Ewe", which was a bit from the movie Babe...but also sounds remarkably similar to "G-d Damn You".

There were a host of other humorous lines therein, too. Half the fun of the game was going around poking everything multiple times just to hear all of them.

It might have something to do with copyright infringement, too, since that is a parody of the song Smoke Two Joints originally done by The Toyes but probably more famously covered by Sublime.

But it would seem more likely that somebody complained about the association with marijuana to which children were being exposed*, rather than the record company complaining about a riff on the original song.

*Ignore the cognitive dissonance involved with exposing them to violence, though.

Ryu Hayabusa - A badass ninja never gets old

Link - It says something when Hyrule can rely on a one-man army and it works far more often than not.

Ezio Auditore da Firenze - Master Assassin, ladies man, great conversationalist...what's not to like?

Samus Aran - That is one nice suit of armor. And the lady ain't bad either.

Zero (Mega Man X) - Destroys homicidal robots by the truckload.

None of the characters do anything for me.

None of the Assassin's Creed characters?

1. Jim Raynor. A Nate wannabe.

2. Matt Horner (Raynor's Lieutenant. For some reason I just like that guy.)
Matt to Jim: "Don't you ever meet any normal girls?"

3. Another for Sephiroth. Legendary.

4. Another for GLaDOS. Triumphant.

5. Another for Duke Nukem, but not necessarily from the 2.5D and 3D games. I'm thinking of the original Duke Nukem 1, 2, and 3 - the side scrollers. That was some good stuff back in the day.

I just remembered one of my all time favorite game characters. How I forgot him and his miniature giant space hamster, I do not know.

Minsc from Baldur's Gate has many funny lines.

"This behavior must not continue. Feel the burning stare of my hamster and change your ways."

"Feel the backhand of Justice!"

"Butt-kicking! For goodness!"

"There is strength in numbers, and I am two or three, at least."

"Evil 'round every corner. Careful not to step in any."

(to his pet hamster Boo, when battle is imminent): "Go for the eyes Boo, GO FOR THE EYES!! RrraaaAAGHGHH!!!"
